Keith Blanchard
My name is Keith Blanchard. I grew up in Florida amongst the lakes, rivers and the ocean. I started surfing at around 10 years old. Scuba diving at 18. I became a scuba instructor after graduating Florida State University in 1993. After that I went down to the Caribbean and taught scuba for several years, then to Hawaii for several more.
I have a true love for the ocean and all things water. The Zen of the ocean can be all around us.
I founded Oceans Edge Custom Pools to share my love of the water. To creatively offer personalized attention throughout the pool building process so others can enjoy the benefits of water in their backyard oasis. I have over 25 years’ experience in residential construction and design and 10 years designing and building pools. From interiors, baths, kitchens to patio’s walkways and custom pools I have designed award winning projects that truly enhance the quality of one’s residence.
It’s with that experience that I wanted to start Oceans Edge. To offer the attention that every job deserves from the start to the finish. Too often, you start with a designer then get handed off to someone else to finish your project. Ideas, design and details often times get lost. At Oceans Edge you will start your project with me and you will end it with me. Attention to detail, attention to workmanship and attention to you the client is what you will get at Oceans Edge Custom Pools.
Step 1 – Consultation and design
This starts with an in-home meeting to develop an understanding of your desire and needs, lifestyle and budget and discuss options to create the backyard of your dreams. We go through your survey to confirm size and layout and to utilize in our 3D modeling computer program to give you an architectural outline of your future backyard.
Step 2 – Site prep and layout
Getting off on the right foot means planning the job correctly. We will provide you with advance notice of our construction crews and you will know what to expect every step of the way. We will take care to not only begin the project right but to also leave your yard the same or better than we found it. We outline your pool to make sure it is exactly where you want it.
Step 3 – Excavation
Following the carefully laid out guides and markers we will precisely excavate your pool and spa area to ensure you have the right foundation and wall support for your pool. There is too much riding on getting this step right so we don’t trust this work to just anyone, our excavators are experienced and personally vetted- we only use the best crews!!
Step 4 – Framework, plumbing and electrical
Ocean Edge Custom Pools carefully installs the support structure for your pool, as well as all the plumbing lines and electrical wiring. We review all of the rebar of the framework for the pool shell and we also conduct multiple pressure tests of the plumbing to ensure the integrity of that system. Since everything from the pool equipment to the pool and landscaping lighting needs electricity our certified electricians follow the plans to make sure that you get power where you need it.
Step 5 – Gunite shell installation
This is where the pool really takes shape as our gunite crews skillfully apply your gunite surface coating to the framework. You can watch our team as they artistically spray and smooth your pool into shape.
Step 6 – Coping, tile and decking
Where your water meets the edge is your pool coping. We work with you to closely choose the perfect edge of your new pool. Travertine, flagstone, porcelain or nice thick cast concrete, we offer many styles to choose from. Your decking will be your new living area. Choosing this to complement the coping will prepare your new project to offer you a lifetime of enjoyment.
Step 7 – Finish surface
This step requires both skill and artistry since it will be what everyone sees and feels when they are in your pool. This takes a day or two depending on materials and design but taking the time to do things the right way has long term benefits. Pebble, plaster or quartz it’s hard to go wrong.
Step 8 – Grading and cleanup
Nearing completion of the pool we begin work on grading and final cleanup. Extras like lighting, decorative rocks, planters, fire pits or whatever else you may have planned is finished as well.
Step 9 – Start up
We perform the initial startup of your equipment and chemical balancing of your pool. We understand that this may all be new to you so we take our time to train you and answer any questions you may have. We offer 2 full weeks of pool maintenance in order to ensure you have a smooth transition of pool care.
Step 10 – Pool School
As we prepare to leave, we do a thorough pool school with you. We answer all your questions and make sure you are versed in all of your new pool equipment and amenities. Our goal is to leave you with the backyard of your dreams.
